The first step the Conextion engineers did when designing these speakers was to take a close look at the ceiling speakers on the market today.

Many do not sound good. Most are designed by "distributed" audio companies who got into
the audio business with speakers that were for, well to be frank, background music speakers. These models were then marketed as home theater speakers, with little or no additional technological improvements to enhance their use in home theater applications or solve the acoustic problems of ceiling installations.

It's In The Design
Our ceiling speakers were created "from the ground up" by our award winning design team. These speakers were designed to be used first for home theater applications, and then for distributed audio. Getting the right acoustic and industrial designers was the first important step in the process of bringing high quality and innovative speaker design to the custom installation professional.

Next we developed a patent pending installation system that truly requires no tools. Our Z-Tool system for zero tool installation allows the frame to be mounted in the ceiling without the use of any tools! We also created the SnapLok Baffle™ that drops into place, requiring no pre-alignment. A simple hook mechanism snaps the baffle into place.

Getting the Image to the Listener

Focusing the soundstage from the ceiling position to the listener is a important consideration. Only a few ceiling speaker brands allow you to angle the woofer and/or tweeter toward the listener. Even with this, the main problem is the woofers and/or tweeter angle only slightly. And most of these speakers create additional diffractions that muddy the sound. Even with this rotational ability, the listener still can't acoustically "see" the tweeter.

Since the most important part of clarity in sound reproduction comes from the tweeter, being able to significantly affect its positioning makes the difference between dull, lifeless sound to natural, more engaging sonic reproduction. Conextion's
ceiling speakers feature a unique design that solves this problem. First, we made our woofer so that it can be angled up to 20°. Then we created the patent-pending Direct Axis Extending Tweeter, which allows a 50° (that's 3.5 times more than the other speakers brands) rotation and enables it to extend slightly below the ceiling and actually point towards the listening position. When combined with the 20° angling woofer, you have the option of up to 70° of acoustic focusing control. However, for times when aesthetics rule over acoustics, the tweeter can be retracted to a traditional flush setting.

No Compromise Construction
Finally we looked at construction. Due to the high costs of tooling, many companies have to compromise between the design and the thickness of the molded material. This can cause less than optimal speaker performance.

Because of the nature of our strategic manufacturing partnership, were able to design with start-of-the-art parts and materials (glass filled structural nylon), with section thickness much more robust than competing products. This allows us to use mechanical designs that enhance the overall acoustic performance with no chance of mechanical buzz and rattle.

Even Outdoors, They Have to Sound Great!

The Sonoma Series features the SFPC™ (Side Firing Pneumatic Coupled) outdoor bass extension system, the world's first design that adds dual passive radiators molded into the speaker cabinet. This provides exceptional bass response from a small volume cabinet and eliminates any risk of moisture damage to the speaker. The Sonoma cabinet is molded from glass filled structural nylon 6/6 for the best acoustically inert cabinet on the market today, to achieve "MDF" type performance from a weather resistant cabinet.
